Solo drumming – Geelong
In 2014 the Geelong Highland Gathering will once again be holding a Solo Drumming Competition to encourage players of all levels to play before and receive comments from our first class judges.
Solo Drumming Competition
Solo drumming (in accordance with Part D of the Australian Pipe Band Contest Regulation) program can be found on the Pipe Bands Victoria website i.e. www.solodrumming.info
- Entries close with the Secretary of the Geelong Highland Gathering, P.O. Box 798, Geelong Vic 3220 on Wednesday, 26th February 2014;
- Entry form can be found on the Pipe Bands Victoria website here;
- Entry Fee is $5 except for Open which is $10;
- Late entries may be accepted by the Contest Supervisor on the day (at double the fee) between 10.00 AM and 10.30 AM at his / her sole discretion;
- Order of play will be in the order entries are received and will start with Learner and conclude with Open:

Beginner & Novice Snare: 1st $20.00 2nd $15.00 3rd $5.00;
D Grade Snare, Tenor & Bass: 1st $30.00 2nd $20.00 3rd $10.00;
C Grade Snare: 1st $40.00 2nd $30.00 3rd $20.00;
B Grade Snare, Tenor & Bass: 1st $50.00 2nd $40.00 3rd $30.00;
A Grade Snare, Tenor & Bass: 1st $60.00 2nd $50.00 3rd $40.00.

**Beginner: Played on a practice pad.
Must be accompanied by a piper on a practice chanter.
(Competitor must have learnt snare drum for 12 months or less from the date of the first contest in the season. They will stay in this section for one season only.)

2 Parts of 2/4 March.
Novice: Snare (Learner)
4 Parts of 2/4 March. (Can play 2 x 2 parts)
D Grade: Snare, Tenor & Bass (Elementary)
2 Parts of Hornpipe into 2 Parts of Jig.
C Grade: Snare (Sub-Intermediate)
4 Parts of Hornpipe into 4 Parts of Jig. (Can play 2 x 2 parts of each)
B Grade: Snare, Tenor & Bass (Intermediate)
4 Parts of Hornpipe into 4 Parts of Jig.
A Grade: Snare, Tenor & Bass (Open)
March, Strathspey & Reel, each of 4 parts or more (Traditional Style).
- All competitors are to commence their performance with two three paced rolls.
