Pipe Bands Victoria is delighted to announce that The Hon. Ted Baillieu MLA, Premier of Victoria and Minister for the Arts has accepted the position of Chieftain of both the VHPBA Inc. and APBA Inc. Victoria Branch. It is hoped to be able to conduct a presentation at a suitable occasion in the near future.
Premier Baillieu is only the second appointment as Chieftain, the first being Sir Rupert Hamer. The position has remained vacant since the death of Sir Rupert in 2004.
It has come to the attention of Pipe Bands Victoria that an overseas website has incorrectly reported on a Notice of No Confidence in the administrative direction of the APBA proposed by Pipe Bands Victoria. The aforementioned website has alleged mismanagement of aspects of the duties associated with the Principal of Piping, Brett Tidswell. Pipe Bands Victoria advises that at no time has it alleged any mismanagement by Mr Tidswell.
Pipe Bands Victoria provided a massed band for the Prime Minister’s Olympic Dinner at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Saturday 23 June. Musicians from all over Victoria participated, and helped raise the profile of pipe bands as well as farewell our Olympians. A big well done to all who participated. A few issues arose due to the size of the venue, but the promoter was extremely pleased.
